I am a mother of three, Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician, and my real job is in the child protective system.
I was once a lay-parent mindlessly selecting a seat because it was on sale and I liked the color, but that was then, this is now and 23 seats (in my personal collection) later, i am confident that i can be of some assistance in selecting, using, and getting to know the world of car seats.
What is your opinion about the Alpha Omega Elite and regular Alpha Omega as well as the Cosco Scenera?
ReplyDeleteAlso, my nephew has been FF since 1 years old and is now 25 months. My daughter is 13 months and is ERF and will be at least to the limit of the seat, 35lbs/36ins (I think). Would you recommend trying to turn my nephew back around to ERF or not? He is still within the ERF limits of his seat.
Thanks
My opinion as a mom and as a CPST is to rf when ever possible as it is so much safer even older toddlers are 75% less likely to be killed or seriously injured when rear facing. I would absolutely rf your nephew if possible.
ReplyDeleteI will address the AO and AOE's in a review I will post shortly. Please let me know if there is anything else I can answer or if there is any way I can help you.
And to answer your question about my opinion on the Scenera, i think it is a fine seat for the price, one can generally get them at K-Mart on sale for $34. you can buy them any day for 40-60 elsewhere. They are a bare bones no frills seat, but do their job. Two of my children ride in them rfing in Grandma's car.
ReplyDeleteThey often need a noodle (or more) for a proper recline rfing and are a bit tricky to instal some times but for $34-60 it can accommodate most children till at least age three. It has relatively low top slots, so your child might require another harnessed seat, but at the same time it is one of a few convertibles that will accommodate a newborn.
Overall it is a great back up seat, or even a full time seat if it is what your budget allows for.
